The independent living programme

A structured, six-week group programme equipping young people aged 16 to 25 with practical life skills to navigate adulthood with confidence and autonomy.

Core pillars of the curriculum

We teach one simple, adaptable framework across six dedicated weekly sessions, guiding young people through key life transitions step by step.

Routine and priorities

Sessions 1 and 2 focus on building reliable weekly structures and effective time management to set priorities and establish realistic habits.

Money and wellbeing

Sessions 3 and 4 deliver practical budgeting tools, bill management strategies, and essentials for personal hygiene and holistic self-care.

Tenancy and future pathways

Sessions 5 and 6 break down tenancy rights, home management, and realistic planning for education, training, and employment opportunities.

Practical, respectful, and focused on small steps

We believe small changes accumulate into lasting independence. Young adults participate at their own pace in small groups of 4 to 6, working through practical solutions without lectures or pressure.

How each 90-minute session works

Our first programme runs on Wednesday evenings, 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm, from 4 November to 9 December 2026. Every session follows a predictable, supportive format:

  • Check-in: A friendly discussion on last week’s task—what worked and what did not.
  • Introduction: A focused overview of the week’s practical theme.
  • Exercises: Collaborative, hands-on tasks in pairs and small groups.
  • Home task: A simple, realistic exercise to test out in daily life before the next meeting.

Measurable clarity for referring partners

Local authorities and social workers receive a clear attendance and progress summary upon completion. Young people leave with concrete tools they actually use: a workable schedule, a personal budget, and clear goals toward education or work.
